Lappies in the US
In addition to Loddi and Anna, I have located three other lappies in the states with known pedigrees. Every now and then I am contacted by folks who believe they have rescued a lappie from a local shelter. Perhaps they are lappies - we will never know for sure - although I think given the small number of lappies in the world, it is unlikely. Like my Sophie, these wonderful rescues open the door to this rare breed for their caring owners. At present the other lappies in the states in addition to Loddi and Anna with known histories are:
Garisdenes Badji -
Badji came to the states from Slovenia. He lives in Vermont.
Skogssamans Nirak-
Known as Nilo to his owners, he came to the states from Sweden. Nilo lives in Florida.
Little Honeys Dolla -
Dolla is from Finland and at last word is living in Virginia.
Connecting with other US Lappie lovers
After my first trip to Sweden, I started a yahoo group to connect folks here in the states with an interest in the breed.
Breed Recognition
At present Swedish Lapphunds are not recognized by the Amerian Kennel Club (AKC). The breed was accepted into the AKC Foundation Stock Service Program in 2007.
The following registries recognize the breed and provide a venue for those interested in conformation showing:
